Jammed Packed

Week in Review

This week has been jammed packed with tons of fun activities. Started off with a trip to the mall to play with friends at the indoor play ground. The weather was crazy. It started to pour rain on our way into the mall and then on the way out it was raining and sleeting. The schools actually were on a 3 hour delay the next day.

That night we went to Virginia's school where she takes speech for a meeting for upcoming kindergarteners. They had a local teacher and the head of the Head Start program talking to us about what to expect in Kindergarten. I will be honest my stomach churned just a little bit by the end of the meeting. I don't like how academically driven kindergarten as become. I feel kids at this age should be kids and learn though play. I don't feel like they should be worked as hard as they are.

I kind of laughed when they told us not to drill them over the summer but to let them be kids. Because they will be working hard during the school year. So yeah, that just made me shake my head. It does make me rethink the idea of homeschool, but I know Virginia will love school. And thankfully we can take school year by year and decide what works best for us. I am thankful to have a great homeschool group of friends that would help me in the journey if we decided to go down that path.

By the end of the week the weather was beautiful. I am talking 72 degree weather with a breeze beautiful. We spent both days at the park playing for hours. It was funny to watch Virginia, she has started to like playing with the boys more then in the past. Both days a group of boys followed her around the play ground playing.

Thursday, Reiggin took Virginia to Chili's for their Father / Daughter dinner night. Breck and I decided to meet up with some friends for BBQ.

Friday was a blast as we met our homeschool friends at the park for a play date. She spent the whole time playing soccer and playing on this huge mud hill " mining for gold ".

Saturday was amazing as we drove down to Historical Brattonsville for their children's farm day. This annual family event focuses on farm life in the 18th and 19th centuries and was tons of fun. They had a professional story teller, blacksmith, horses ploying the fields, pony rides, and so much more. We spent over 3 hours walking all around and still didn't see everything. I got a work out pushing Breck in the stroller though the grass.

Virginia is truly blessed with amazing Aunts. My sister Lisa stood in line forever with Virginia so she could ride a pony. And we stood and watched Virginia walk around a circle 7 times just to make a birthday size candle. Aunt Susan and Lisa were huge help to me in taking Virginia around when I had to stop to care for Breck. I love our outings with my sisters, niece, and nephew.

Sunday we wrapped up the week by going to sunday school and sunday service. Breck made it halfway though before he decided to make a large fart and poop in the middle of the service. I just had to giggle when the guy in front of us turned around and smiled. Honestly I enjoy sitting in the crying room better some days. Our church is awesome and has a "crying room" a room beside the main room that has a couch and rockers and toys that parents can go to if they need to breast feed or if their kids are restless. The room has a double sided window where you can see inside the service and still hear the preacher's sermon.

Afterwards we relaxed for most of the day until we met up with Reiggin and went shopping at the Mall and ended the day with dinner at Pizza Hut with our good friends Meredith and Lincoln.

Knitting WIP (works in progress )

Virginia is still working on her second square for her blanket or scarf. She hasn't made up her mind yet.

I am working on two projects currently. My first project is my monthly challenge project Siamese Paws. This is my first time knitting on size one needles and doing intarsia. So learning new things with this project. My second project I am working on is a washcloth, Slant Dishcloth pattern, for my friend Jess who is expecting her second baby soon. I am wanting to knit all the dish cloth patterns on Knit Picks 52 weeks of dishcloths

Knitting FO ( finished objects )

I have finished the womb wisdom headband/ ear warmer for Virginia. It is a little loose on her and fits me perfect. But it is much cutier on her then me. I have never looked great in ear warmers or head bands.

Open Roads

Hey Everyone, I am back! I know I took just a little blog break. But glad to be back and hope to post more on a regular schedule now. So let me give you an update on everyone in the family.

Please excuse the horrible onesie he is wearing. Go Tarheels!

Breck is 3 months old now. He is my chunky monkey. He is already in 6 month and some 9 month clothes. At his two month check up he weighed 15lbs and 7oz.  He is sleeping better now at night just waking up one time. He is a early raiser and likes to wake me up at 5:30am and 6:00am. He loves his sister and she can always get him to laugh. He is laughing and giggling so much more these days. He is even starting to grab at the things that hang above him in his bouncy chair.

Next up is Uma our loving dog. She is officially over a year old now. She is still digging holes all over my back yard. She loves to sneak a few licks of Breck's head when I am not looking. She follows Virginia all over the house. She really is a great family dog.

Virginia is growing and can't believe my baby will be starting Kindergarten in August. She is doing great. She loves playing outside and of course playing on her Ipad. She has also picked up knitting. Yep she is learning to knit. Makes me so happy. And she is still very fond of doing crafts though out the day.

Reiggin and I are doing great. We both got new cars. I know it is crazy but the time was just right and things fell into place. I am thrilled to have two cars again. Being stuck in the house during the week was getting old.

Week in Review

So now that I have a car again Virginia, Breck, and I have been hitting the open road. This week we have enjoyed going to the park. Going to the park with two kids by myself is really a learning process. I have learned it is easily when you have a friend with you. Also have learned that when the park is packed it is tough to roll the stroller up and push your kid on the swing. But walking the stroller around the track I hope will be a good source of exercise for me and bonus it puts Breck to sleep.

We also have gotten back into speech lessons so we have those Tuesday and Thursday. On Wednesday we got back into going to story time at the library. It was so much fun to be back and to see our favorite librarian and to see how much the kids have grown that attend.

I even was brave and took Virginia and Breck to Homeschool skate day on Friday. Virginia has been begging to go skating. And it was nice to see all her homeschool friends and their moms. This group of moms, we have almost all had babies in the past year. I was nervous about helping Virginia skate and taking care of Breck at the same time. Virginia surprised me and after following her around the rink two times she took off on her own. My baby is growing up.

Saturday we drove to Clover for Zach's birthday. It is always fun when we go to the Miller's house. But this time it was beyond awesome. They had a new roller-coaster toy that the kids love. Even the adults were pondering if they could ride the coaster without breaking it.

Sunday we went to church and did some rainy day crafts and just hung out at home since the weather was so nasty outside.

Knitting WIPs ( Works in Progress)

I am currently working on the womb wisdom headband/ ear warmer for Virginia. I am using size US8 needles and Red Heart with Love Fruit Punch yarn. This is the first project with cables that I have ever done. I am really enjoying doing the cables.

Virginia is working on the second square of her blanket. She keeps changing her mind if she is going to make a scarf or a blanket with the squares she is knitting.

Knitting FOs ( Finished Objects )

Since the beginning of the year I have finished a Knit Hat for Virginia, Grandmother's Favorite wash cloth for Faby's new baby Melody, and the Onesie wash cloth for Jess's baby Joey.

Virginia has finished her first knitted square. She is practicing her knit and purl stitch. Her first square is pink. I honestly forget what kind of yarn and needle size she used on this square.

Well that is our week in a nutshell, I am hoping to at least post once a week with a summary of how our week has been.
