Marble Art

This past week I have been testing out crafts that I want to use with my moms club. Virginia has been loving it since we have been painting almost every day. I usually don't paint with her everyday because it is such a long process setting up and cleaning up. But I have found a solution to my problem. We have started to put the paint in one of breck's clear baby food tubs. This keeps the paint fresh, no more throwing away paint, and Virginia can open the containers all by herself. I have also started making Virginia clean up her own mess at the end. This has made a world of difference.

This time we tested out marble art. I had seen it on Pinterest and YouTube and seemed like something she would enjoy. It took Virginia a bit to get past the fact that her fingers were going to get messy. My clean freak, love her but am confused by the fact she will play all day in the play ground mulch, but hates getting paint and food on herself. 

Once we rolled the marbles in paint. We cut a sheet of paper to fit I side our tray lined with aluminum foil. Virginia dropped the marbles on the paper and went to town rolling back and forth. We rediped some of the marbles to get more color onto the paper. Virginia loved the whole process and asked to do it again. A sure sign that the craft was a success. I loved the fact she could do it all by herself as I fed Breck.

Scratch Art

I have been searching for fun activities to do with my Moms Club. I have searched Pinterest and all my favorite blogs. Now I have fallen in love with surfing YouTube for craft videos. I came across a DIY scratch art video using oil pastels.

I have seen the same concept using paint. But the great thing about oil pastels is you don't have to wait for them to dry. With Virginia the quicker the process the better. I actually tried this out by myself. I don't get to play with my art materials a lot. So I jumped at the chance when Virginia was busy watching Stampy and Breck was napping.

This project literally took 15 minutes start to finish. I cut out a simple square. I kept it small so it wouldn't take me long to finish. Then I colored the whole square with different colors. Next, the scary part I covered the whole design with a black oil pastel. 

Once covered, I used a cuticle stick and a stencil to scratch out a design. This project was so fun and really addictive. It was fun seeing what colors popped up and just fun scratching off the black. Got project for kids to do by themselves. And you don't have to worry about being perfect, so all ages can do this craft.

The things I enjoy most about this book is the beautiful photography, the mix of skill level for each project, and the informational details about the materials and tools used in each project. I feel that the beginner and most advanced crafter could find a project they would enjoy in this book.

The things that I am not crazy about in this book include the font choice for the alphabet in a few projects. I felt the font was not easily read. I also wish that the templates in the back were detachable. I feel that would make the templates easier to use.

I look forward to creating the baby door tag, friends coat rack, and family memory game. Overall this book is filled with creative projects for babies all the way to young kids.
