The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was one of the first books that CentralPiedmontMommies book club choose to read this year. I have to admit that this book is not for everyone. Only about a handful of the moms in the book club finished the book. I believe the main reason was the book is written in letter form. That is that you are reading letters that are being sent back and forth by the characters in the book.

The first few chapters do drag on and on, but if you stick with the book it is worth it. The story is great and informative. The story is basically about a young woman author, Juliet, that by chance falls in love with Guernsey an island in the English channel. The story is based right after World War II. The story follows the young author as she befriends a group of people on the island. You follow her journey and witness the telling of how it was on the island during WWII and watch a romance form. I enjoyed the book and my only fault with the book is the ending was to quick. Everything seemed to just wrap up all of a sudden.

This year I decided to join the Kannapolis Paranormal Bloodsuckers group on Goodreads. The book club is an online book club that is attached to the Kannapolis library. The group reads and discusses paranormal books. The first book I read for the group was First Grave on the Right. Oh My Gosh I absolutely loved this book.

I mean I caught my self laughing out load and saying OMG. The main character is a Grim Reaper and assists her Uncle and the police force. The book follows her as she tries to solve a murder of three local lawyers. The book is pretty hot and heavy to in parts of the book. I had to fan myself in many parts of the book.

This was a pretty quick read and found myself not able to put it down. I would recommend this book to pretty much anyone, as long as you don't mind some steamy sex scenes.

For April's book choice for the Kannapolis Paranormal Bloodsuckers I read Cinder. I wasn't too sure about this book it is a different take on Cinderalla. She is a android, half human and half machine. The earth is dealing with a deadly plague. She is a well known mechanic in her city. The prince comes asking for her services.

From here the story takes many different twist and turns. I was pleasantly surprised how much this book held my attention. I enjoyed that in this version of Cinderalla the Prince and Cinderalla actually meet and get to know each other before the big ball.

The author is currently working on the second book for the series that I believe is going to be a spin on Red Riding hood, but still keeping some of the new characters from Cinder.

For March the CentralPiedmontMommies book club chose The Peach Keeper. With a little help from the Mt. Pleasant librarian we picked a nice sweet summer romance read. The story is set in Walls of Water, North Carolina.  The story follows the rebuilding of The Blue Ridge Madam, a historical inn in the town. While The Blue Ridge Madam is being restored the main characters the Joker, the Perfectionist, the Freak, and the Stick find their lives coming together in a way none of them would have guessed.

I enjoyed this book because I always love a good romance. And this book was just not a romance but has a mystery thrown in as well. I would recommend this to anyone that is looking for a light summer read.

I finished reading Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore and I have mixed emotions about this book. I loved it, but at the same time was disappointed in the whole story as a whole. I guess the build up of the mystery got me so excited and then the review just left me like really that is it. But overall I really did enjoy reading this book. I don't feel like it is a book that a wide variety of people will love. I think I enjoyed it because of my graphic design background. I was surprised that my library community chose this book as the community read for the month. They had tons of events and discussions planned for this book which was cool. Another awesome feature of this book is the cover, spine, and back of the book glows in the dark. It shocked me when I woke up in the middle of the night to feed Breck and my book was glowing by my bed. But to sum it up this book was a OK book, but I wouldn't give it 5 stars.
